The United States has issued an emergency information advisory dated November 3, warning American citizens of “elevated threats” to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. The advisory notes that Nigerian security agencies are actively countering the threat.
The advisory cautions US citizens to exercise vigilance when visiting major hotels, be alert to their surroundings, maintain a low profile, and review the travel advisory for Nigeria before checking into any hotels. It also provides the addresses and telephone numbers of the US embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos for assistance.
The US Department of State stated, “The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.”
In October, the US issued a global advisory advising its citizens to exercise caution when traveling to various locations worldwide. Nigeria was listed under the third tier of caution alert, suggesting that travelers should reconsider their travel plans to the country.
