The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has advised the Labour Party (LP) to accept the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which removed Senator Darlington Nwokocha from the Senate. The PDP emphasized that the court’s decision was final and could not be reversed.
In response to statements made by LP Chairman in Abia State, Ceakay Igara, who rejected the court’s declaration of Austin Akobundu as the duly elected senator for Abia Central, the PDP called on the LP to obey court orders and support PDP and Austin Akobundu’s legal victory.
The PDP brought 19 grounds of appeal to the Appeal Court, and it argued that Section 77 pertains to both pre-election and post-election matters. The PDP claimed that the LP could not defend most of the grounds presented at the Appeal Court.
The PDP also mentioned a circular from the LP in Ikwuano LGA calling for a solidarity rally to protest the court’s judgment, describing it as an unprecedented move in democratic history.
The PDP criticized the LP for rejecting the court’s judgment and calling for its review, stating that such actions could lead to anarchy. The opposition party urged its members in Abia to remain calm and warned that any protest against the Appeal Court’s ruling could cause a security breach in the state.
