In a recent development, the Israeli army has confirmed the arrest of prominent 22-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi during a raid in the West Bank on Monday, with allegations of “inciting terrorism.”
Ahed Tamimi, who gained international recognition, was previously detained in 2017 when she was just 16 years old. At that time, she faced accusations of aggravated assault and 11 other charges. This followed the viral circulation of a video on Facebook, which depicted her kicking two Israeli soldiers in her home village of Nabi Saleh. The incident had occurred after the soldiers arrested her younger brother.
An army spokesperson, when contacted by AFP, stated, “Ahed Tamimi was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence and terrorist activities in the town of Nabi Salih,” which is located near Ramallah in the West Bank. Following her arrest, Tamimi was subsequently transferred to Israeli security forces for further questioning.
This arrest of Ahed Tamimi has reignited attention on the ongoing tensions in the region and the broader issue of Palestinian activism against Israeli policies and actions.
