In a symbolic display of unity, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara reassured his loyalty to his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year of the Rivers State Judiciary. The event, graced by both political figures, took place at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Hospital Road in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara, addressing the congregation, emphasized that Wike remains his principal, effectively putting to rest recent political discord in the state. Acknowledging the turbulent times the state has endured, Fubara called for peace, stressing that progress can only be achieved through unity among political actors and their supporters.
Despite the challenges faced, Governor Fubara expressed confidence that the current phase of political misunderstanding would pass, and his administration would fulfill its promises to the people of Rivers State. He urged supporters to refrain from using abusive language against perceived opponents, clarifying that he did not authorize any form of character defamation.
This public reconciliation marked the first meeting between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike since the recent political strife. Wike, arriving at the church service towards its conclusion, exchanged a handshake with his successor and shared a row with him during the remainder of the service.
Injecting humor into his speech, Governor Fubara jokingly appealed to the congregation to suspend the recognition of guests to avoid any unintended controversies, demonstrating a lighter moment amidst the serious tone of political reconciliation.
