At the grand finale campaign rally in Lokoja on Thursday, Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Kogi governorship poll, made bold promises of transforming the state within four years if elected as governor.
Melaye, a former senator, expressed his commitment to building a new Lokoja, drawing parallels with renowned cities like New York and New Delhi. He outlined the strategic importance of Kogi, labeling it the richest state in Nigeria with vast untapped mineral resources, including uranium, titanium, lithium, gold, and crude oil.
Regretting that only limestone has been exploited from these resources, Melaye pledged to tap into and develop the untapped minerals, commercialize them, and improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for overall development and an enhanced standard of living.
Boasting of being the most educated, experienced, and exposed among the 18 candidates in the upcoming November 11 election, Melaye called for massive support from the electorate. He credited his political training to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, highlighting his role as a well-trained student of the veteran politician.
In a show of support, Atiku Abubakar endorsed Melaye as the most qualified candidate to lead Kogi, emphasizing the need to liberate the state from poverty and backwardness. Abubakar urged the people of Kogi to rally behind Melaye on election day, emphasizing the importance of casting votes that would catalyze the state’s progress and transformation.
