In a surprising turn of events at the ongoing 2023 Alaghodaro Investment Summit in Benin City, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State extended praise to his predecessor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, acknowledging his significant contributions to the development of the state and for facilitating Obaseki’s succession.
While Governor Obaseki had previously been at odds with Senator Oshiomhole, especially during the 2020 Edo gubernatorial election, where Obaseki secured a second term victory against Oshiomhole-backed Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governor’s recent statements marked a notable shift in their relationship.
In November 2019, Governor Obaseki had explicitly stated that Oshiomhole did not contribute to his ascension to the governorship in 2016. However, during the Alaghodaro Investment Summit, Obaseki publicly expressed gratitude to Oshiomhole, stating, “As governor of Edo State, you made it possible for me to become the governor of Edo state. If you did not, I will not be here tonight… I will forever be grateful to you.”
