The Lagos State Government has reported a significant increase in cases of wives assaulting their husbands, with over 340 incidents recorded in the last year.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, highlighted the concerning trend in the agency’s quarterly report. Additionally, male victims have reported 340 cases of domestic violence perpetrated against them by their wives between September 2022 and July 2023. The agency is actively handling these cases with the aim of finding amicable resolutions.
Simultaneously, the Lagos State Government, through the Joint Task Force on Implementation of the Executive Order on Safeguarding and Child Protection, has initiated a monitoring and assessment exercise across the six education districts in the state.
The task force, comprising representatives from various departments, is evaluating the implementation of the Executive Order in schools.
The exercise, which began on October 31, 2023, involves on-the-spot assessments to confirm the practical application of the policy, identify strengths, and highlight areas for improvement. The initiative aims to ensure the adoption and effective implementation of the Executive Order across all education districts in Lagos.
Representatives emphasized that the monitoring exercise is corrective rather than punitive, emphasizing the need for schools to implement precautionary measures for a safe learning environment.
