In the just-concluded local government council election in Taraba State, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in all the chairmanship positions. Philip Duwe, the chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), made this announcement while declaring the election results at the commission’s headquarters in Jalingo.
Duwe revealed that a total of six political parties contested for both chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 16 local government areas (LGAs) of the state. He further noted that the results of the 165 contested councillorship seats had been declared at the various LGAs.
“This election was keenly contested by six political parties, and the PDP has won overwhelmingly from the results here declared,” Duwe stated.
He expressed gratitude to the media for their objective coverage and commended their commitment and resilience throughout the electoral process. Duwe assured that the commission would carefully study reports and feedback from various quarters to enhance its performance in future elections.
Addressing those who lost in the election, Duwe urged patience, emphasizing the need for everyone to contribute to sustaining peace in the state. He advised the victors to be humble and grateful in their victory, while encouraging those who faced defeat to remain prayerful and focused, recognizing that challenging days would eventually pass.
