A 65-year-old landlord in Lagos, Igwe Ambrose, has been sentenced to double life imprisonment by an Ikeja sexual offences and domestic violence court. Ambrose was found guilty of sexually assaulting his tenant’s children by inserting fingers into their private parts. The survivors, aged 7 and 11, identified the landlord, leading to his arraignment on a four-count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.
The court, presided over by Justice Abiola Soladoye, noted that the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The judge described Ambrose as a “dirty old man” who engaged in indecent treatment, touching the breasts of the survivors under the pretext of helping them with their school assignments.
Justice Soladoye sentenced the landlord to life imprisonment for counts one and two, while counts three and four carried seven years each. The judge emphasized the credibility of the survivors’ testimonies, corroborated by their mother and the investigating police officer.
The verdict ensures that Ambrose’s name is entered in the sexual offences register maintained by the Lagos state government, marking a significant penalty for his actions.
