In a move to quell the escalating feud between Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa, President Bola Tinubu has reportedly intervened by inviting members of the Ondo Assembly to a meeting in Abuja on Friday.
Prominent elders and traditional rulers had earlier appealed to President Tinubu to step in and address the political crisis to prevent potential anarchy.
Reports indicate that the Ondo Assembly is currently divided, with 11 lawmakers expressing support for Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa. Sources suggest that external forces, reaching out to these lawmakers from outside Ondo State, may be contributing to the division.
A scheduled sitting of the lawmakers for Friday, allegedly pushed by the 11 lawmakers, is rumored to be part of a plan hatched in Abuja. The plan reportedly aims to declare Governor Akeredolu incapacitated and designate Aiyedatiwa as the new Governor.
Speaker Oladiji Olamide confirmed the meeting with President Tinubu, emphasizing that the meeting’s outcome would determine the next course of action. He clarified that the Friday plenary was intended to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor and not to declare Akeredolu as incapacitated. Oladiji stated, “Our sitting was to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor. The Governor is still alive.” The meeting with President Tinubu was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
