In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended the alleged mastermind behind a fraudulent Dangote Cement price slash scheme. Benjamin Ezeukwe, a 28-year-old suspect, was captured on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State.
The arrest follows weeks of intensive investigation conducted by officers from the Area A Command of the Lagos State Police Command. Among the items seized from Ezeukwe were a Tecno phone, an iPhone, three SIM cards, including one with the number 08039691980, which was reportedly used in the elaborate scam, and a Toyota Avalon identified as proceeds of the crime.
Ezeukwe’s modus operandi involved creating a deceptive online advertisement in September 2023, masquerading as Dangote Cement and announcing a massive price reduction. Numerous unsuspecting victims fell prey to the scam, collectively losing millions of Naira to the fraudulent scheme.
Further investigations have uncovered that Ezeukwe had carried out several other similar scams prior to his arrest. The suspect has been arraigned in connection with the fraudulent activities.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The arrest serves as a warning to potential scammers as law enforcement continues to crack down on cybercrimes.
