Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that one side of the six-lane Ossa Road, stretching from Okpara Square to Tower and currently undergoing construction, will be ready for use by Christmas. Governor Otti made this statement during an inspection of the ongoing construction works on the 3.5km carriage, a significant entrance into Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
Expressing optimism, Governor Otti stated, “I have been assured that at least one side would be ready for commuters to use during this Christmas.” He emphasized that as the dry season sets in, the construction work will progress steadily to ensure timely completion.
Motivated by the recurring congestions, particularly during festive seasons, Governor Otti initiated the expansion of the road from four to six lanes. He highlighted the positive impact on traffic flow, especially during peak travel times. The Governor acknowledged the importance of addressing the needs of the people and assured that the government is committed to delivering on those needs.
Explaining the rationale behind the road expansion, Governor Otti mentioned the increasing number of people relocating to Umuahia and Aba, emphasizing the government’s forward-thinking approach to accommodate the growing population and businesses. Despite the achievements within the first six months of his administration, the Governor stated that it was just the beginning, with plans to address various aspects of the people’s needs.
Governor Otti extended his sympathies to those inconvenienced by the ongoing construction, assuring them that the inconvenience would be temporary. Regarding compensation for affected properties, he confirmed that payments had been made to those affected, with additional compensations planned for houses that were enumerated after the initial payments.
