Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, has turned down the appointment offered by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to serve as a member of the party’s finance standing committee. The APC had recently released lists and names of its standing committees, with Rabiu listed as a member of the finance committee.
The finance committee, to be overseen by Uguru Ofoke and Emma Eneukwu, featured prominent figures such as the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zach Adedeji, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, among others.
However, a counter statement from the BUA Group clarified that Rabiu was not consulted by the APC before his name was added to the list. The statement emphasized Rabiu’s consistent apolitical stance over the years and expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment of his commitment to economic prosperity and national development.
The statement read, “With respect to this, we wish to inform the publishers, our partners, stakeholders, and the general public that Mr. Rabiu has decided to graciously decline the nomination/appointment. This decision is made in light of the fact that he was not previously consulted regarding his inclusion in the list and his inability to commit time due to his demanding schedule.”
As of the time of reporting, the ruling party had not yet responded to Rabiu’s rejection of the committee membership. The APC had scheduled the inauguration of the committees for December 6 at its national secretariat in Abuja, according to a statement on the party’s social media page.
