Controversial Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has strongly denounced the recent airstrike in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, expressing disapproval of the bombing of innocent civilians, including the wives and children of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The military drone strike, initially claimed to be a mistake due to erroneous intelligence, resulted in the tragic death of worshippers celebrating Malaud in the village. Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident.
Addressing the incident during his weekly lecture at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna, Sheikh Gumi questioned the military’s claim that the bombings were a mistake. He emphasized that the assembly of people, including women and children, was detected by drones equipped with cameras. Gumi expressed concern that innocent lives were targeted, questioning the justification for such actions.
Gumi stated, “For us, nobody should be a target of such bombings. This is because it’s wrong to kill women and children, including the elderly, and we are not in support of such, even if they are IPOB members.”
He further asserted that face-to-face combat was preferable to bombing people, and he rejected the idea of supporting the killing of innocent civilians, regardless of their affiliation.
Drawing attention to the situation, Gumi highlighted the absence of similar airstrikes against other groups, questioning the selective nature of the attacks. He concluded by suggesting that the bombings were specifically intended to target certain individuals, emphasizing the need for accountability and the protection of innocent lives.
