Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the alleged collapse of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during an event held in Abuja to mark his 61st birthday. While the spokesperson of the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, and one of Akpabio’s media aides, Jackson Udom, vehemently denied the incident, sources claim that the Senate President did, in fact, slump while seated at the venue.
Yemi Adaramodu refuted the reports, stating, “Nothing of such happened. Everybody saw him today; he was hale and hearty. The Senate President didn’t collapse.” He questioned the credibility of such claims without video evidence, emphasizing that he was part of the team that saw the President off after the event.
Jackson Udom echoed similar sentiments, stating that the reports were not true and challenging those sharing the story to provide evidence such as pictures or videos.
However, anonymous sources asserted that Akpabio slumped while seated in a chair at the hotel where the event took place. They clarified that he did not collapse while walking but rather while he was already seated. According to these sources, after the colloquium, the Senate President was seated when he suddenly slumped, prompting swift action for his medical attention.
One source suggested that fatigue might have played a role in the incident, mentioning that Akpabio must have been tired. After the alleged slump, he was reportedly resuscitated and subsequently rushed to a private hospital near the venue.
