In a recent development, the Zamfara State Police Command successfully thwarted an attempt by armed bandits to kidnap residents of Damba in the Gusau area. The victims, including a security guard, were rescued in a prompt operation.
According to a statement by the spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the armed bandits targeted the residence of Kabiru Umar Faruk of Sabon Garin, Damba, attempting to kidnap him. The bandits managed to abduct the watchman of another house, owned by Malam Hassan Abdullahi.
The police swiftly responded, pursuing the bandits and forcing them to abandon their captive watchman. The statement disclosed, “On sighting the police, the hoodlums fired at the victim in his right hand and took to their heels with possible gunshots.”
The incident occurred on December 29, 2023, around 01:30 hrs, prompting the Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division to mobilize a team for a search-and-rescue operation. The police intercepted the abductors on the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba, resulting in the rescue of the victim.
The abducted watchman, identified as Malam Hassan Abdullahi, aged 52, was taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and is reportedly responding well to treatment.
The statement emphasized that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, commended the efforts of the police and the timely report from the residents of Sabon Garin Damba, which contributed to the successful rescue operation.
