Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has openly taunted Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, asserting that he will not relinquish power to those attempting to force him out of office. The power tussle between the two political figures has been a source of ongoing conflict in Rivers State.
Despite a peace pact mandated by President Bola Tinubu to quell the crisis between Wike and Fubara, the governor made it clear during a New Year’s Eve crossover service at St. Paul’s Archdeaconry Parish in Opobo Town that he would not yield to pressure. Fubara emphasized his commitment to ensuring development in Rivers State and declared that he possessed the symbolic red biro used for official signatures.
In his statement, Fubara addressed the congregation, saying, “I want to urge everyone of us here, don’t be frightened. What they want is this red biro; it is still with me. They have failed. You are the winner; we are the winner because we are still signing with the red biro. And, so long as we are signing with the red biro, development will continue in Rivers State.”
The governor went on to assert that he stood with the people when he campaigned for office, and he would continue to stand with them. The public display of defiance suggests that the power struggle between Fubara and Wike is far from resolved, raising questions about the future political landscape in Rivers State.
