In a disturbing incident, bandits have attacked the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shooting two policemen and kidnapping seven family members. The assailants targeted the victims in Zuma 1, Bwari central ward, marking an escalation in recent banditry plaguing the area.
According to reports, a middle-aged man known as Alhaji, who led the police in an attempt to thwart the kidnapping, was shot dead by the bandits. The victims included a father, Mansoor Kadriyar, and his five children. Abdulfatai Kadriyar, the man killed by the bandits, was reportedly the brother of Mansoor Kadriyar.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the bandits strategically positioned themselves after identifying their victims’ house. Upon suspecting a threat, the victims immediately contacted Alhaji, who alerted the police.
As Alhaji led the police team to the house, one of the bandits hiding at a corner shot him dead. The police engaged the bandits in a firefight, resulting in two officers sustaining gunshot wounds. Despite the exchange of gunfire, the bandits managed to abduct the man and his family members.
This incident follows a pattern of banditry and kidnapping in Bwari Area Council, with residents expressing concern over the security situation. In a separate incident on Tuesday, bandits invaded Barangoni in Bwari central ward, abducting three individuals and injuring a vigilante member.
Residents are calling on the authorities of the council to collaborate with security agencies to address the escalating kidnapping and banditry in the area. The sense of insecurity has left Bwari residents living in fear, prompting urgent calls for intervention to curb the violence and protect the community.
