The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its imminent commencement of production for refined petroleum products as it takes delivery of the 6th batch of one million barrels of crude oil needed for its initial operations. In a statement released on Monday, the company revealed that the latest shipment of one million Agbami barrels of crude, received via MT ALMI SUN, completes the initial scheduled six million barrels consignment required for the world’s largest single-train refinery to begin operations.
Exactly one month ago, the Dangote refinery received its first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, marking the beginning of a series of crude oil deliveries in batches. The latest batch was discharged on Monday at the Single Point Mooring at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal.
Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, emphasized that with the full delivery of the six million barrels, the refinery would be well-positioned to commence operations. The initial run is expected to facilitate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), progressing later to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process 650,000 barrels per day and utilizing 100% Nigerian crude, has the flexibility to handle various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from other countries. The refinery is poised to play a crucial role in addressing fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries.
According to the company, the refinery can meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel. Moreover, it boasts a surplus of each of these products for export, positioning itself as a significant player in the regional and global petroleum market. The impending commencement of production marks a significant milestone in the journey toward energy self-sufficiency and economic development for Nigeria and the West African region.
