In a significant political development, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has conveyed his willingness to spearhead a coalition of opposition parties with the aim of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections. This declaration came in a congratulatory message to PDP governors whose election victories were affirmed by the Supreme Court on Friday.
Atiku, through a statement from his media office in Abuja, lauded the Supreme Court’s decision as not only a victory for the people of Bauchi, Plateau, Cross River, and Zamfara states but also a triumph for constitutional democracy. He extended his congratulations to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, belonging to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), emphasizing the need for a united opposition force to fortify democracy in Nigeria.
Expressing his readiness, Atiku was quoted as saying, “I am as prepared as ever to lead the charge, alongside all our leaders and governors, for the good of our country.”
Acknowledging the court’s verdict, he added, “Where justice is seen to have been substantially rendered, we, as patriots and citizens, will always applaud.”
Atiku highlighted the Supreme Court’s affirmation as a guarantee for the continuation of the high standards of good governance that the PDP has brought to the respective states. He urged the upheld PDP governors—Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Barr. Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, and Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom—to view this opportunity as a platform to consolidate and expand the scope of the good governance they have established.
