In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has disclosed the arrest of seven high-ranking cultists in the Ikorodu area of the state. The arrests, made within a span of five days, were confirmed by Fayoade during an interaction with the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) at the state’s command headquarters on Thursday.
According to Fayoade, three suspects were apprehended on Tuesday, and an additional four were taken into custody on Thursday, all within different parts of Ikorodu. The arrests were carried out based on intelligence gathered by the police.
Assuring residents of Lagos State, the Commissioner pledged to confront issues of cultism, robbery, and kidnapping with determination. Fayoade emphasized the importance of collaboration with the media, considering journalists as crucial partners in gathering feedback and information.
Expressing his commitment to transparency, Fayoade announced his partnership with the judiciary to ensure that arrested criminals face lengthy legal consequences. He affirmed that no police officer would be shielded from accountability for any misconduct.
The Commissioner urged members of the public to provide information on any unprofessional conduct by police officers, emphasizing the need for the community to actively participate in maintaining law and order. Fayoade also called on Divisional Police Officers to create conducive environments in their stations for receiving reports and complaints from the public when necessary.
