Coach Jose Peseiro expressed optimism about the Super Eagles’ performance despite a goalless draw with Equatorial Guinea in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match on Sunday in Abidjan. Peseiro believes that if the team continues to play in the same manner, no team will beat Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON.
The Portuguese coach, disappointed with the draw, highlighted that the team had many clear opportunities and deserved to secure all three points. Peseiro emphasized that players do not miss goals intentionally, acknowledging the difficulty of converting chances.
Addressing the status of Alhassan Abdullahi, who suffered an injury during the match, Peseiro mentioned that the player had not been thoroughly checked, expressing hope that the injury is not severe.
Despite the draw, Peseiro remains confident in the capabilities of his players and looks forward to the upcoming matches in the competition. The Super Eagles will face the host team, Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire, in their second match on January 18 in Abidjan.
