In a striking revelation, Muslim organizations united under the banner of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) conveyed their concerns about the economic hardships faced by Nigerians during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The President of the Council, Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyatullah, made this declaration at the SCSN’s National Conference in Abuja, themed “Matters Arising from the 2023 Election and Associated Socio-Economic Challenges.”
Expressing distress over the plight of Nigerians, particularly the masses, Hadiyatullah lamented the significant surge in the prices of various commodities across the country. He asserted, “The suffering of Nigerians has escalated since President Tinubu assumed office. What used to cost 200 naira is now being sold at 2,000 naira. Nigeria’s current state is marked by cash scarcity, unemployment, and economic challenges.”
Despite highlighting the challenges, the SCSN president urged Nigerians to turn to repentance and seek guidance from God in the face of these difficulties.
During the conference, former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmad Yerima, addressed the purpose of the gathering. He discussed topics such as the review of the 2023 elections and the role of Islamic scholars in society. Yerima emphasized the dangers posed by individuals falsely claiming to be Islamic scholars on social media platforms, cautioning Nigerians to be vigilant.
The overarching goal of the conference was to address these challenges comprehensively and draw attention to the perils associated with following unqualified individuals who misrepresent Islam, especially on digital platforms. The gathering aimed to provide a platform for constructive discussions on key issues affecting the nation and its citizens.
