In a significant development, the Federal Government has announced a thorough review of recruitment guidelines for the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, unveiled this transformation during the Board meeting of these security services in Abuja on Friday, January 19.
Under the new guidelines, there will be a notable shift in the recruitment landscape, with 35% of slots now earmarked for women. Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing gender inclusivity in the security sector.
Speaking through the Secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Tunji-Ojo highlighted that ongoing recruitment in the Federal Fire Service would adhere to these revised guidelines. The emphasis will be on professionalism, gender mainstreaming, and adherence to Federal Character principles.
“The federal government through the Board has approved the review of the guidelines for recruitment into, and promotion in all the four Services under the Ministry of Interior,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
Furthermore, he outlined the comprehensive modernization plans for the Nigeria Immigration Service, encompassing training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies.
Issuing a stern warning to potential applicants, Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to avoid falling victim to scammers. He stressed that any request for payment in exchange for recruitment into the agencies is a scam and assured that the government is actively pursuing those engaged in such fraudulent activities.
