In a significant development, the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, has been apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the establishment of an unrecognized vigilante group in Nasarawa State. The arrest took place on Tuesday at the Miyetti Allah’s Head Office, located at Tundun Maliya Cattle Market on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.
Reports indicate that DSS operatives, in collaboration with Nigerian Army soldiers, conducted the arrest at approximately 3:40 pm, near Goshen Church, as they departed the Miyetti Allah’s Head Office after detaining Bello Bodejo at the entrance.
A source within the DSS confirmed the arrest, citing concerns that the creation of the Nomad’s Vigilante Group could potentially incite violence nationwide. The source highlighted that the group lacked registration with the DSS, police, or any other security agency, making it unrecognized by the Federal Government.
The source stated, “Our (DSS) operatives and soldiers of the Nigerian Army stormed the Miyetti Allah’s Head Office in Nasarawa this afternoon, and we’ve arrested their National President, Bello Bodejo, for creating a vigilante group that is not recognised by the government.”
“The creation of that nomad’s vigilante group could cause violence in the country. The group was not registered with the DSS, the police, or any other security agency, and the group is not recognised by the Federal Government.”
Despite attempts to obtain a statement from the DSS spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya, he remained unavailable for comment.
Bello Bodejo, in response to the development, had earlier emphasized that the volunteer vigilantes would operate within the framework of existing laws during their activities. During the inauguration of the vigilante group in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Bodejo urged members to collaborate with the Police, Army, and other security agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to security across the 13 local councils of Nasarawa. The unfolding events surrounding the arrest are expected to shed light on the nature and implications of the unrecognized vigilante group.
