In a strategic move to propel the Niger Delta region towards sustainable development, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has revealed the commission’s ambitious plans for the year 2024. The focal point of these plans is the emphasis on robust engagement with stakeholders, setting the stage for a comprehensive approach to address the region’s needs.
During an interactive session held at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, Ogbuku stressed the significance of engaging various stakeholders to implement projects that will foster lasting development in the Niger Delta. He highlighted the commitment to aligning activities with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A major highlight of the outlined plans is the upcoming stakeholders’ summit scheduled for March. This summit aims to provide a platform for the exchange of new ideas and strategies, involving key stakeholders such as members of the National Assembly, regional ministers, traditional rulers, and representatives from the private sector. Ogbuku emphasized that the summit would foster collaboration rather than working at cross purposes.
In a departure from past practices, the NDDC is placing priority on capital projects over recurrent expenditures. Ogbuku urged the management and staff to gear up for the challenges ahead in steering the developmental process within Nigeria’s oil-rich region.
Commending the efforts of the NDDC staff over the past year, Ogbuku acknowledged their hard work and dedication. He urged them to exceed expectations, emphasizing the high expectations placed on the Commission by the President to reshape the narrative of the NDDC and the Niger Delta region.
Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, echoed Ogbuku’s sentiments, noting positive changes in the perception of the NDDC. He praised the hardworking staff for their contributions to the region’s development.
Executive Director Project, Sir Victor Antai, expressed gratitude to the staff for their cooperation and diligence in discharging their duties. In response, NDDC Staff Union Chairman, Comrade Anthony Gbendo, thanked the Executive Management for prioritizing staff welfare and called for increased focus on capacity building through training to better equip them for the challenges of developing the Niger Delta region.
As the NDDC unveils its comprehensive plans for 2024, all eyes are on the commission to drive impactful and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.
