The Federal Government has established a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage with the task of recommending a new minimum wage for the country. The announcement was made by the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen.
The inauguration of the committee is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 12:00 noon at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja. The committee, chaired by Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, includes representatives from the Federal Government, State Government, Private Sector, and Organised Labour.
Key members from the Federal Government include the Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Minister of Budget Economic Planning; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Permanent Secretary, GSO. OSGF; and Chairman/CEO, NSIWC, among others. State Governors, private sector representatives, and leaders from organised labour, such as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), are also part of the committee.
The establishment of this committee reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the national minimum wage and ensuring a balanced representation from various sectors. The committee’s recommendations will play a crucial role in determining the future minimum wage in the country.
