In a significant breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended AbdulAzeez Ibrahim, an alleged serial rapist, kidnapper, and murderer, in the Imaweje community of Ijebu-Ode on Sunday. The arrest, which took place at approximately 2:30 am, also revealed Ibrahim’s affiliation with the notorious Neo-Movement, widely known as the Aye Confraternity.
According to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Ibrahim, who claimed to be a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun, is not only a serial rapist and murderer but also the second in command, referred to as the “Butcher,” of the Aye Confraternity. His arrest sheds light on his role as the custodian of the gang’s weapons, responsible for terrorizing communities in Ijebu-Ode.
Odutola shared details of the operation, stating, “Following intelligence, the Special Weapons and Tactics team stormed his hideout, where several weapons and charms were recovered.” The recovered items include a serviceable Beretta fully loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action Rifle-Josef with 10 rounds of live cartridges, an English long double barrel rifle, two locally made short single barrel rifles, one locally made short single barrel with two rounds of live ammunition, and assorted charms, including body armor.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, expressed determination to crack down on notorious criminal elements in the state, vowing to eliminate syndicate groups involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and cultism. Ogun State has faced challenges related to cult activities and killings, with recent incidents resulting in casualties and arrests.
The police’s ongoing efforts to curb the rise of cultism in the state have led to multiple arrests, including that of Ogunnibi Hammed, a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity, and 18 other individuals linked to the gang. The names of those arrested during various sting operations were provided by the police, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
