In a brazen assault on the Okigwe Correctional Farm Settlement, gunmen have claimed the life of a police officer and facilitated the escape of seven inmates in an audacious attack that transpired in the early hours of Monday.
The incident unfolded at the Correctional Service Farm Settlements in Umualomoke, Okigwe, where assailants reportedly also seized a correctional service officer before launching an assault on the residence of Senator Patrick Ndubeze.
Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, who promptly visited the scene, pledged an exhaustive effort to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted correctional service officer.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Commissioner of Police issued directives for the immediate deployment of the Command’s Special Tactical Squad to track down the suspected operatives affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, IPOB/ESN were implicated as the prime suspects behind the attacks on the Correctional Service Farm Settlements in Umualomoke and Senator Patrick Ndubeze’s residence in Okigwe. The assaults resulted in the liberation of seven inmates and the abduction of the farm settlement’s officer, along with the tragic demise of a Police Inspector.
The statement further outlined the Commissioner of Police’s directive to the special tactical squad operatives, urging them to redouble their efforts to secure the safe release of the abducted officer and to apprehend the fleeing inmates, subjecting them to the full extent of legal repercussions.
