The Lagos State government has delivered a firm message to Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, urging her to settle a substantial sum of N18,640,092.00 as personal income tax within a strict timeframe of seven days.
As per the Lagos government, Iyabo Ojo carries a tax liability of N7,376,000.00 for the year 2022, alongside an outstanding liability of N11,264,092 from the 2021 income year.
The actress has been presented with a 7-day ultimatum to fulfill her tax obligations, with potential consequences looming should she fail to comply.
Responding to the government’s demand, Iyabo Ojo took to Instagram to express her frustration, sharing documents of the personal income tax letter. She openly voiced her concerns, directing her message to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State government, seeking an explanation for the exorbitant amount stated in the tax bill.
Questioning the basis for such steep personal income taxes, she criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the calculation process. She also referred to a previous instance where she dutifully provided the government with the requested details of her earnings and income, but received no response in return.
Expressing her discontent, Iyabo Ojo stated, “Last time, you people asked me to come to your office, I came, you asked me to explain & declare what I earn, which I did with my tax consultant, but noooooooooooooo you did not respond to my letter, because you want me to pay you an outrageous amount that I do not have,” sharing her sentiments in the Instagram caption.
Feeling overwhelmed by the mounting financial burden imposed upon her, the actress, who is a mother of two, raised concerns about the government’s apparent insensitivity towards the struggles faced by individuals and businesses alike. She questioned the government’s contributions to her life, asserting, “What have you people ever done for me as a government? NOTHING!!! I have single-handedly raised my kids & so many others, plus myself without a single penny from the government.”
