During a thanksgiving reception at Nyesom Wike’s residence in Rumueprikom, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, addressed the money he gave to the former Rivers State Governor during his 2014 campaign. Akpabio clarified that the donation of N200 million was not from the government funds of Akwa Ibom State, where he served as the governor, but from his personal savings in the telecoms industry, where he previously held a position as a managing director.
Wike had earlier expressed his appreciation for Akpabio’s support during his governorship ambition in 2015, highlighting the N200 million donation as an example of Akpabio’s assistance. He stated that Akpabio defied criticisms to back his campaign, and in return, Wike supported Akpabio for the Senate Presidency in the recent elections.
Akpabio’s response sought to clarify the source of the funds, asserting that the money given to Wike was not from the Akwa Ibom State government but from his personal savings accrued during his tenure in the telecoms industry.
