The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 6,879 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines have been fully configured and are ready for deployment for the upcoming Anambra governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Memorial Centre, Awka.
According to him, 11 out of the 13 activities outlined for the election have already been completed, leaving only the end of campaigns at midnight on Thursday, November 6, and the election day itself.
Amupitan stated that INEC has published the final list of 16 candidates contesting the election, emphasizing that only candidates whose names appear on the official list will be eligible to participate. He also revealed that 3,456 persons with disabilities have been registered to vote, ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process.
He added that 2,802,790 voters are on the final register, following the clean-up of voter data and the removal of 27,817 invalid multiple entries, leaving 140,370 valid new voters. Additionally, 5,983 voter transfers were approved, and all political parties have received soft copies of the register.
Amupitan assured that the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) is fully operational to upload results in real time, promising that winners will be announced promptly to ensure transparency and credibility.
“As of this moment, 11 out of the 13 scheduled activities have been successfully implemented. The remaining two are the end of campaigns and Election Day. INEC is fully ready,” Amupitan stated.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Benjamin Okolo said the police will maintain civility and fairness during the election. He warned against electoral violence and vote-buying, urging political actors to convince voters through persuasion rather than intimidation.
Also speaking, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner and Chairman of the Tenders Board, confirmed that 114 domestic observers and 76 media organizations have been accredited for the election, while 24,000 ad hoc staff have been trained and are ready for deployment.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, reaffirmed that all logistics and personnel are in place for a credible, free, and fair election.
