The Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, of cases of violence against its members and destruction of its campaign billboards and posters across the state.
It was reported that the Publicity Secretary of the party’s Oyo State chapter, Olawale Sadare, in a statement, said Makinde is using a syndicate that is allegedly made up of miscreants recruited into the service of the Park Management System, PMS.
Sadare said the allegation followed the recent destruction of campaign billboards and posters belonging to candidates of the APC and other opposition parties.
He said most of these attacks and billboard destruction seem to be a well-coordinated effort with APC billboards as the primary focus.
The Oyo APC noted the “seeming lackadaisical attitude of the police and other security agencies towards arresting the ugly trend of coordinated attacks against opposition figures and their properties as perpetrated by some known agents of Makinde and Oyo PDP.
“It is with a deep sense of regret that we are raising the issue of politically motivated again at this time when parties and their candidates intensify efforts to kick-start campaigns ahead of the next general election. Those behind the dastardly acts in parts of the state are well known and we have called the attention of security agencies to their nefarious activities on several occasions with proof.”
Sadare recounted in the statement that a team from the party was at the Toll Gate area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to mount a billboard, but a few minutes after a group of alleged miscreants came in a bus and began to destroy the billboards unchallenged.
He said the campaign billboards of various APC candidates like the Oyo Central Senatorial candidate, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, Sarafadeen Alli, Olaide Akinremi, Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Dapo Lam-Adesina, Aderemi Oseni, and others have been ruined in different parts of the Ibadan.
He continued that attacks against APC members in the state capital are on the increase, as some members were attacked at Aliwo, Oke-Adu, Agodi spare parts market, Iwo Road, and Iyana Oja Bodija, adding that members were equally attacked during October 4, 2022, Solidarity Walk for Tinubu/Shettima in Ibadan.
He said: “The spate and manner of these violent attacks clearly indicate that those behind them enjoy the backing of Governor Makinde and Oyo PDP
