In a significant political development, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved a strategic blueprint for the emancipation and takeover of the South East geopolitical zone. The revelation came during a meeting with a delegation of APC stakeholders from Anambra State at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, expressed his delight and likened the occasion to a day of celebration, emphasizing the importance of unity among the South East politicians within the APC. He stated that the approved blueprint aims to integrate the zone into the mainstream politics of the country, providing a platform for the stakeholders to negotiate for political leadership at the national level.
“I am so delighted and very happy. Today is like a Sallah day for me and Christmas Day for the Christians. It is like the day of swearing-in for a victorious politician,” Ganduje exclaimed. He urged the South East APC stakeholders to be united for the success of the party in Anambra State and emphasized that the political liberation, which began in Imo, would continue in Anambra in 2025.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, accompanied by counterparts from Kwara, Yobe, and Nasarawa states, encouraged the South East APC stakeholders to take control of the destiny of the zone. He expressed surprise at the lack of political achievement in the region, considering its notable success in other fields. Uzodimma stressed the need for unity, tolerance, and reconciliation among the stakeholders to drive the political goals of the South East to fruition.
“I don’t want our zone to go extinct in the national politics. The South East, which ordinarily should be the citadel of Nigerian politics, is being left behind of late. We should be able to advise and set targets for ourselves, and drive our target to fruition,” Governor Uzodimma urged.
The meeting was attended by key APC stakeholders from Anambra State, including the state chairman, Basil Ejidike, and prominent figures such as Andy Uba, Ifeanyi Ubah, Nkem Okeke, Uche Ekwunife, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, Joy Emordi, and Chidozie Nwankwo, among others. The gathering marked a crucial step in the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence and influence in the South East region.
