The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly denied any intentions of compromising the anticipated Supreme Court judgement on the Kano governorship election. In a statement released on Sunday, Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano APC chairman, addressed speculations circulated by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and affirmed the party’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Abbas clarified that the NNPP had been spreading rumors among its members, suggesting that the party had approached President Bola Tinubu to influence the Supreme Court judgement in favor of their candidate and subsequently join the APC.
He stated, “There is nowhere such a meeting was held with either Mr President or any leader of the party. President Bola Tinubu is a democrat and strongly believes in the rule of law and the right thing to be done and therefore will not be part of any arrangement or reconciliation to subvert justice and support people who have stolen votes or breached the electoral act to emerge as leaders.”
The APC chairman emphasized that the party had no knowledge of such an arrangement and asserted its determination to pursue the case at the Supreme Court diligently. Abbas expressed confidence in the party’s victory at the apex court, citing the compelling evidence presented during both the tribunal and the Appeal Court proceedings, which ultimately led to the party’s success.
As the Kano governorship election case awaits the Supreme Court’s judgement, the APC remains resolute in its commitment to legal processes and maintaining the integrity of the electoral system.
