Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed support for President Bola Tinubu amidst the recent suspension of handlers of the nation’s social investment programmes, including the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu. The governors urged Nigerians to be patient as President Tinubu would take further actions based on the outcome of ongoing investigations. The APC Professionals Forum commended the swift response of the president to allegations of malfeasance against the suspended minister, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The APC governors, who met in Abuja to discuss party strategies for 2024, conveyed strong support for the Tinubu administration. The meeting included governors such as Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and others. The governors affirmed their commitment to supporting the president and his policies, aiming to maximize the benefits of the current administration’s initiatives.
Regarding the suspension of Dr Edu, the governors highlighted that it was an allegation undergoing investigation. They emphasized the need for patience and urged against premature judgments until the investigative process is completed.
The APC Professionals Forum praised President Tinubu for his decisive action in suspending appointees whose actions raised questions about their performance. The forum applauded the move, considering it a renewal of hope for the majority of Nigerians in the fight against corruption. They also commended the president for reducing expenditures on foreign and domestic trips, urging the administration to continue recruiting progressive-minded individuals to key positions.
