An armed attack on the Sabon Gari community in Mangu Local Government, Plateau State, resulted in the death of nine people and the destruction of six houses. The attack took place on Saturday night and is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the state, which has been plagued by ethnoreligious conflicts.
Jerry Datim, a leader of the attacked community and national president of the Global Society for Middle Belt Heritage, confirmed the incident. He expressed gratitude for the swift response of Operation Rainbow, a local security outfit, which helped bring the situation under control.
Authorities are continuing their search as some individuals are still missing. Datim called on the government to provide necessary support and logistics to ensure a prompt response by security forces in the future.
