In a bid to ensure loyalty and professionalism within the Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division, has urged soldiers to remain steadfastly loyal to President Bola Tinubu and the constituted authority. The GOC emphasized this message while addressing soldiers at the 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Major General Usman stressed the importance of professionalism and unwavering loyalty, extending from the President to the top echelons of the Armed Forces. His address comes at a time when a wave of military coups has been occurring across African nations, with the most recent being the coup in Gabon.
Accompanied by Brigadier General Mohammed Tajudeen Aminu, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Major General Usman underscored the necessity of loyalty within the Nigerian Armed Forces. He acknowledged the existence of challenges within the Brigade Command but emphasized that disloyalty would not be tolerated.
“Loyalty must start with the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, who is the President. That’s first, and then down the ladder. Loyalty to the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, down to your Brigade Commander,” he stated.
He further emphasized the crucial role of soldiers in maintaining the country’s security and urged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and diligence in their duties. Major General Usman highlighted that soldiers are tasked with ensuring the safety and normalcy of the nation so that civilians can carry on their daily activities without fear.
The GOC took the opportunity to commission the Quarter Guard project at the Barrack during his visit. Additionally, he met with Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, who pledged continuous support for the GOC and the Nigerian Army.
Oba Gbadebo emphasized the essential role of soldiers in maintaining the safety and stability of Nigeria, underscoring that without their efforts, the nation would not be a secure place for its citizens. The visit of the GOC highlights the importance of unity and loyalty within the armed forces, particularly during times of regional unrest and political uncertainties.
