The Nigerian Army has responded to the recent allegations made by former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, regarding the alleged involvement of some military cabals in oil theft in the region. Dokubo had made these claims during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army vehemently denied any involvement in illegal oil bunkering, oil theft, illegal oil refining, or other illicit activities in the Niger Delta. Nwachukwu emphasized that the army has been actively engaged in combating these crimes, yielding positive results.
The Nigerian Army’s intervention in the fight against oil-related crimes has contributed to a significant increase in daily oil production, countering the previous decline. Nwachukwu reiterated the army’s commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for compromise or acts of economic sabotage by its personnel.
Furthermore, the army assured that any personnel found to be involved in illegal activities will face appropriate disciplinary action. The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its determination to preserve national security, protect critical infrastructure, and ensure the economic prosperity of the country.
As the Nigerian Army continues its efforts to combat illegal oil activities and maintain law and order in the Niger Delta, it remains committed to upholding its core values of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
