Asaba, a commander a syndicate group of the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, was killed on Sunday during an attack on police operatives of Delta Command in Illah Community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
It will be recalled gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB killed three police officers who were on patrol in Okpanam community on Sunday, 24, 2022.
According to reports, the police patrol team attached to Illah Division while on stop and search duty at Ogbada quarters along Illah–Akwukwu-Igbo road were attacked by three armed men suspected to be members of IPOB.
It was gathered that the gunmen engaged the police in a fierce gun duel during which the leader of the hoodlums was killed while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.
It was learnt that one AK47 with breech no 2534896 and six rounds of 7.62MM ammunition; believed to be for one slain policeman, was recovered from the slain hoodlum.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Ali Mohammed Ari recalled that there have been intensive raids of criminal hideouts and black spots to nab killers of the three police officers.
He disclosed that the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba both promised to provide succor to the family of the slain officers.
