Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is set welcome the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, back into the party.
Atiku will lead PDP leaders to welcome Shekarau into the party after his recent outburst and accusation against the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso.
It is understood that the former Kano Governor is unsettled at the NNPP and he is believed to planning to dump the party for the PDP.
Shekarau said the NNPP and Kwankwaso have failed to integrate his supporters in the party structure, accusing his successor of betraying the agreement they had before his defection.
Atiku, who is expected to return from the UK on Sunday, will meet with Shekarau ahead of his official defection to the PDP.
With the 2023 elections fast approaching, the PDP is working to encroach into APC strongholds, especially as it contends with a yet-to-be-resolved internal crisis
