Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, has called on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to show courage and uphold substantial justice in his petition seeking the nullification of Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election.
Atiku dismissed Tinubu’s threats, stating that the heavens would not fall if the tribunal removes Tinubu from office due to massive electoral fraud. He referred to a past Supreme Court judgment on Rotimi Amaechi’s case, where the court asserted that it would do justice even if the heavens fell.
In his final written address presented by his lead counsel, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, Atiku emphasized that Tinubu had lost both moral and legal rights to be Nigeria’s president, considering his admission of punitive forfeiture in a narcotics and money laundering-related matter.
The former Vice President accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of corruptly manipulating the presidential election results in favor of Tinubu, leading to an unlawful proclamation of his victory. Atiku appealed to the tribunal to nullify INEC’s proclamation and declare him the rightful winner, having convincingly scored the majority of lawful votes.
