Farmers in Kaduna state are facing a harrowing situation as bandits are compelling them to pay levies before being allowed to harvest crops from their farms. Villagers in Kidandan and Galadima are being forced to pay amounts ranging from N70,000 to N100,000, under the threat of kidnapping, violence, or confiscation of their farm produce.
The affected communities, particularly in Angular Fala’u and Kerawa villages, are enduring constant harassment and kidnappings while working on their farms. Bandit warlords, including individuals named Buhari, Gana’i (deputy), and Kwalameri (third in command), are reportedly responsible for terrorizing residents in the area.
A source from Kidandan village emphasized the dire situation, warning of a potential shortage of food crops in the state if the issue is not addressed urgently. Farmers are reportedly abandoning their farms due to the prevailing banditry in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment on the situation, leaving concerns about the safety and security of farmers in Kaduna.
