Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Kulben community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of 10 lives. The assailants also caused significant damage to houses in the area during the violent incident.
The attack occurred late on Sunday, around 10 PM, as armed individuals believed to be part of an armed Fulani militia group stormed the village. Moses Fwan, a resident of Kulben village, recounted the horrifying event, revealing that in addition to the casualties, numerous villagers sustained injuries.
Fwan lamented the destruction of property, particularly houses, by the attackers before they fled the community. As a result of the tragic loss of lives, plans were underway to hold a mass burial for the victims as the community mourned the loss of their kinsmen.
Dr. Elisha, the Chairman of Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, also confirmed the attack, noting that initial reports indicated that 10 persons lost their lives during the invasion.
Security operatives have been deployed to the affected community to address the situation. The Police Command in Plateau State condemned the attack, labeling it an act of cowardice by the perpetrators. They emphasized the importance of the public’s cooperation in providing information to enable swift action in addressing such challenges and maintaining law and order in the society.
Meanwhile, the Military Special Task Force responsible for maintaining peace in the state was not initially aware of the attack but promised to investigate the incident and take necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
