Reps Speaker Abbas laments tragedy, tasks security agents

Ten tomato traders from Danmagaji Market in Zaria, Kaduna State, have reportedly lost their lives during an attack by bandits. Seven others were reportedly injured during the attack while five were taken away by the bandits.

The traders were said to have travelled to Katsina and Zamfara states to buy tomatoes only to be attacked, on their way back, at Takoki village in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Reports say that in an attempt to escape, the driver of the truck conveying the traders reversed at high speed, making the truck to fall off a bridge.

“While 10 of the traders died as a result of the incident, seven others sustained various injuries, with five traders suspected to have been kidnapped by the bandits. The traders’ goods worth N60 million were reportedly destroyed,” according to one report.

Reacting to the tragedy involving his constituents, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, expressed sorrow over the fate that befell the traders.

Abbas strongly condemned the attack in a press statement issued yesterday, Monday, February 10, 2025, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi.

He called on the security agencies to intensify efforts at rescuing those kidnapped as well as arresting the bandits.

The speaker prayed for the repose of the souls of the 10 traders who lost their lives while at the same time extending his condolences to their families.
