In the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria, at least six people have been killed, and around 40 others have been abducted by bandits in a series of attacks that occurred between Wednesday and Thursday this week. The victims include farmers, with the Vice Chairman of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah, Mallam Yakubu Muhammad Bugai, among the fatalities.
According to Ishaq Usman Kasai, the Chairman of Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), the Islamic cleric was shot in the abdomen while on his farmland in the Rema area. He was later taken to Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital for medical treatment.
The bandits are believed to have used Kuyambana Forest as a hideout and abducted scores of locals in the area. In another attack, the bandits invaded Unguwan Danfulani village, killing one person and kidnapping seven family members. Additionally, six traders were kidnapped along the western part of the Birnin-Gwari Weekly Market.
As of now, the police and Kaduna State Government have not issued any statements regarding the incident. However, the situation has caused fear and concern among the local community.
