Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed concern about the increasing activities of bandits in the state, stating that they are becoming overwhelming. The governor made these remarks during a courtesy visit by the Bauchi State Council of Emirs. He noted that due to the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to combat banditry and terrorism in other parts of the country, Bauchi State is now serving as a refuge for these elements, causing disturbances.
Governor Mohammed reassured the public that his administration is actively working to ensure peace and security for the citizens of the state. He also mentioned the establishment of a Ministry of Internal Security to collaborate with the Federal Government in addressing internal security issues.
However, he emphasized that the state is facing challenges and may require additional support from the Federal Government, similar to interventions in other regions experiencing security challenges.
In addition to security concerns, Governor Mohammed highlighted infrastructure issues, particularly the need for the revival of the Enugu-Maiduguri railway route, which has been abandoned, and the poor condition of the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road.
The governor urged the traditional rulers and emirs to advocate for these infrastructure improvements with the President and emphasized the importance of the state’s role in the country, regardless of its political affiliation.
The Deputy Chairman of the Council of Emirs in the State, Umar Faruk II, commended Governor Mohammed for his support of the traditional institution and various initiatives to improve the welfare of emirs and district heads. He mentioned the provision of vehicles for district heads and efforts to renovate or build new houses for them as positive steps taken by the governor.
