In the aftermath of the Bayelsa State governorship election held last Saturday, Senator Douye Diri, the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has solidified his lead by winning five out of the six local government areas announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) so far.
After the break, three more local government areas’ results were revealed, with the PDP securing victories in two LGAs, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) claiming one. The PDP emerged victorious in Yenagoa, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Sagbama, and Ekeremor LGAs, while the APC secured Nembe LGA.
As of the latest update, the PDP has garnered a total of 137,909 votes, maintaining a substantial lead over the APC, which has accrued 73,503 votes.
The announcement of results for Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs is still pending, as the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Kuta Farouk, has adjourned the collation until noon on Monday. The political landscape in Bayelsa remains tense as residents await the final outcome of the closely contested election.
