In a tragic incident, Talatu Salihu, a final year student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), was killed by kidnappers in Abuja after her family was unable to meet the demanded ransom. Talatu, a student of Library and Information Science, was abducted alongside her siblings at their residence in the Nigerian capital.
According to sources, the kidnappers demanded over N100 million for the release of Talatu and her siblings. Tragically, her family could not afford the ransom, leading to the heartbreaking outcome. Close friends of Talatu at BUK confirmed her death to SaharaReporters on Wednesday.
A friend revealed, “She was kidnapped together with two of her siblings in Abuja, and the kidnappers demanded over N100 million for their ransom, which their parents could not afford. They killed her because her family was not able to meet up with the payment of the ransom.”
As per the friend’s account, Talatu’s brothers are still in captivity, with the kidnappers threatening to harm them if the ransom is not paid. This incident adds to the growing concerns about the rising cases of kidnapping and abductions in Abuja, as reported by SaharaReporters.
In a related development, an intelligence report from the Nigeria Police Force disclosed intercepted phone calls between kidnappers in Karu, near Abuja, and Kabusa area in the Federal Capital Territory, planning an operation. The report indicated that a kidnapping operation was scheduled for Tuesday or January 17, 2024, heightening security apprehensions in the region.
