A three-part investigative documentary by the BBC has unveiled shocking allegations of abuse and torture against the late Nigerian Pastor, Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua. The documentary reveals the purported mistreatment of TB Joshua’s daughter, Ajoke, by the late pastor, his disciples, and the secretive environment within the Synagogue Church of All Nations.
According to the documentary, TB Joshua’s disciples claimed that Ajoke was born outside lawful marriage and was perceived as a threat to the pastor’s reputation. The late pastor allegedly subjected her to constant abuse, humiliation, and the denial of fatherly affection. Ajoke herself attested to the years of abuse, describing the pain and emotional turmoil she endured.
The documentary suggests that the disciples, brainwashed and acting as enablers, participated in the humiliation of Ajoke, following TB Joshua’s commands without questioning. One disciple revealed that Ajoke was viewed as having “terrible evil spirits” that needed to be driven out.
The allegations of abuse span almost 30 years within the secretive compound of the Synagogue Church of All Nations. Over 25 former members from various countries provided corroborating testimony about their experiences within the church, likening their encounters to being in a cult.
TB Joshua, who rose from poverty in Nigeria to become one of the most influential pastors in African history, passed away in June 2021. The documentary, however, sheds light on the dark side of his legacy, presenting a stark contrast to the positive image he enjoyed during his lifetime.
The BBC reportedly contacted the current leadership of the Synagogue Church of All Nations with the allegations presented in the documentary. The leadership responded, stating, “Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence.” They further asserted that none of the allegations had ever been substantiated. The current leadership did not address the specific details of the allegations, as reported by the BBC.
